Webinar Overview
Out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) is a significant health concern, with an estimated 350,000–356,000 cases in the U.S. in 2020. Only 24% of patients survive to hospital admission, and fewer than 10% are discharged with good neurological outcomes. Withdrawal of life-sustaining treatment (WLST) is the most common cause of in-hospital death after OHCA, underscoring the need for accurate, multimodal prognostic assessments.
Objectives:
- Discuss immediate post arrest interventions in the NeuroCritical Care Unit
- Describe exam findings and ancillary testing used to inform neurological prognostication
- Discuss ways to guide families through complex prognostic discussions
